Solving the Parks Problem

Elizabeth Titus-Putnam '55 founded the Student Conservation Association based on an idea she developed in her senior thesis at Vassar. In its first year of operation (1957), 53 high school, college, and graduate students volunteered in Olympic and Grand Teton national parks. Today, this international organization has more than 40,000 alumni and offers interns hands-on environmental opportunities at more than 250 natural resource sites each year.
