Ian Gerard '90 was in his second year at N.Y.U. Law School, and his brother Stefan Gerard '92 had just landed his first "real" job at St. Martin's Press when they had a great idea. Find talented-but-starving young artists and match them up with sophisticated 20-something types. Host an event where young artists get exposure and publicity, and young professionals see that they can actually afford to buy original art. They got Gen Art off the ground with a handful of volunteers and their own very modest pile of cash. Today, Gen Art has offices in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Miami, and Chicago, and produces over 100 events a year, showcasing high-profile art, film, fashion, music, and multimedia.
